The AP and the USA Today Polls have done a great thing today. They dropped #5 Michigan and #19 Florida St. out of the Top 25 after losing their opening games. Somehow Tennessee managed to stay in the Top 25 after looking awful against #12 California. On top of all of this the voters have to be patting each other on the back for not having Notre Dame in their polls.
This weekend should be a tell-tale game for LSU as they face Virginia Tech. If they play the first half the same as they did last Thursday we will be done. Of course this will be the first of many tell-tale games this season.

ESPN says USC is trying for their third BCS title since 2003, yet when I look at the list it only shows them winning in 2004.
In 2003 USC was given the AP Champ even though the team they beat was Michigan, who had two losses that season to Oregon (8-5) and Iowa (10-3).
In 2004 USC dominated Oklahoma, however they should've played Auburn
In 2005 USC got beat by Texas, scratch that, they got beat by Vince Young.
In 2006 After losing to Oregon State & UCLA they were still able to win the PAC-10 and beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl.

All of that said the top picture can't be true.

This is the start list for Friday when they have the 400M final. Hopefully we can get Gold, Silver & Bronze! Checkout those personal bests, no one is even close to the three Americans. In other news LoLo finished 6th in her race :'(, but the good news is Michelle Perry (USA) finished first.
It breaks down like this:
USA dominates in Track <400M
Kenya dominates in Track >400M
Russia dominates the Field events

Oh Ty there was two guys from Zimbabwe, but they are headed home. Neither made the finals (200 & 400).

If you haven't been watching the World Championships on Versus, you have been missing some great stuff. The Men and the Women have both finished the 100M which is the MOST exciting. We (USA) lead the Total medal count, the Gold medal count, the Silver medal count and the Bronze medal count.
Some guy from Zimbabwe did good in the 200M today so we will see what he can do tomorrow in the finals of the 200M.
Jamaica wants to act like they're fast but they are not getting many medals.

Anyways it is on Versus, check it out.

I am probably one of, if not, the biggest fan of Tivo, but DVR's have taken away great moments like the time I was watching SportsCenter and the news had just broke that due to NCAA violations the Michigan Wolverines were going to lose all of their records and awards from the Fab Five Era. Well Trey Wingo said, "so that whole time out thing, never happened" and went right on with the news.
While I was rolling on the floor laughing I had to call Matt to see if he was watching. He answered his phone and I said, "are you watching SportsCenter" he then continued to roll on the ground laughing just like I was doing.
Now no one, including myself, watches live TV. :-(

Apartment vs. House

Just was thinking about something the other day, neighbors.
I live in Oakleigh Apartments. Along with Mark, Heather, Lacey, Caleb, Goose, Matt, Steph, Meghan, Chris, JJ, Travis, CJ, Lisa. In my section there are 7 neighbors and aside from Goose and Caleb who live right below me, I don't know any of them at all. Compare that to when I lived in my parents house we knew our neighbors, we may not talk with them daily but we know them they know us, but in an apartment complex you don't get that. I guess it is because in apartment life you assume someone is here one day and could be gone the next but I've always found that weird about apartments. This could just be me in which case, oh well I'm weird anyway, but I don't think it is just me.

You lived in an apartment at some point, or you do now, how was your experience?

How many people do you have in your life that knows everything about you?

Friends..., family? My family knows me well, my friends know me well, but they only know the me that I let them know. It has been quite a few years since I was in my last serious relationship, and while thinking about that I realized that in that moment she knew me best. And while things in my life have changed in the years since she knew me she might still know me better than anyone knows me. Cause when your in a relationship you let down your guard and let them in.

While your family knows why you are who you are, thru storys and sharing memories she too gets the big picture.

While your friends hear your dreams and goals, she steps alongside you and tries to help you accomplish these goals.

So to those of you who have that person, congrats.
To those still searching, they are out there waiting for you!

So I just put up a post where the gas price was $2.41. Well tonight when I was coming back from my parents house the gas prices were as low as $2.34. So when I got on my side of town I started looking at gas prices and they were still up there in the $2.40's. There were three gas stations within seconds of one another and they differed $2.38-$2.42. How can these prices be so different.

I mean it isn't "a lot' but it adds up to $1.34 difference in one fill-up on my truck.

But as long as the prices keep falling I'll be happy.

This has always been rough for me. If I don't write it down in my calendar I'm not going to remember it. Even if I put it in my calendar and don't put a reminder/alarm on it...

How do you polish this skill?

Of course the thing that spear-headed this post is birthdays and the problem I run into there is just knowing the date of my friends & families birthday.
But even still I know my parents birth date and I have trouble recognizing that it is their birthdays without a reminder of some sorts.

This "little" guy has been hanging out around my front door for the past couple months. So last night i took the pictures then I sprayed some bug killer on him. it took about 30 minutes for him to look like I even sprayed him. But soon he was looking drunk and began haphazardly flying away.

The Tour comes to a close

On sports shows, like PTI, they always talk about how Americans need to start winning their sports. Well Americans are the only ones that play "American Football", yes even NFL Europe and the CFL is filled with Americans trying to get into the NFL. So we do dominate that sport.
Baseball, ok not that I pay baseball any kind of attention, seems like it has been leaning on "foreign" players for quite some time now, so yes while it "began" here it isn't "ours". It is basically stolen from Cricket (but don't quote me on that).
Then there is basketball. It was thought up right here in America and I don't believe it was a spawn of any other existing sport. But take a look at the teams starting 5. Some teams are strictly foreign born players, and all but 1 maybe 2 teams has at least 2 foreign born players on their team. So no it is not a shock to me that USA losses at the Olympics in this sport.
But I do love it when an American wins the Tour de France. All of Europe rejoiced when Lance retired, finally Ivan or Ullrich had their chance to win it... that was until they got caught doping. So with the best of the last SEVEN years retired and the next best out for doping that left this tour wide open to see whose the "best". And when all the watches stopped keeping time, low and behold an American was right there at the top of the field. Floyd Landis has officially made it 8 years straight that an American goes home with the Yellow Jersey!

The best part is all the beach time I've had. After my last post I went to Pensacola to hangout on the beach for a week. Then I got back to Baton Rouge for a week. Then I was gone for a week doing tech stuff for a youth camp in San Destin right on the beach. Then came back to BR and it was 4th of July weekend. So for the past month it has been beaches & bar-b-ques.
The only sad thing about it has been that I wasn't able to watch all the sporting events my last post spoke of.
But I guess vacation time is over now it is back to the old grind.

Great Month or Two for Sports

World Cup kicked off back on June 9th and will go until July 9th. Of course it isn't a full month of soccer, it is 64 matches, but come June 27th they will start taking two days off between matches. Just so ya know this is watched world wide by billions of people with millions actually going to the matches.
NBA Playoffs have been going on for what seems like an eternity, but the Finals started back on June 8th, and it looks as though they may go to June 22nd. Small sidebar: I hate the format for the finals 2-3-2 gives the advatage to the "lesser" team in my opinion. If they can win all three of their home games all the momentum is with them heading back to the "greater"teams homecourt.
The US Open started today June 15th with a rough start for many of the top names. As a matter a fact I guess it was rough on the whole field with only Monty finishing under par at -1 (which is good, the lower the number the better the score). Also apparently Tiger is being followed by a few guys so they can blog about what he is doing on every hole.
Tomorrow the College World Series gets underway, unfortunately LSU will not be present, but two of my readers are represented in Omaha. Miami Hurricanes (Dup) & Georgia Bulldogs (BDP) are there so... yeah I'm so happy for you guys and your teams... yeah... whhhoorahh. Okay next topic.
And this one is a sad one, le Tour de France begins July 1st and goes 3657 kilometers or 2271 miles which comes to an end on July 23rd with only 2 rest days. The reason this is sad is because Lance Armstrong won't be racing after winning it with his team for the past 7 years. :'(

Well if you are a sports fan I hope this post got you pumped.
If you like hockey or regular season (post-season as far as that goes) baseball sorry I left you out but...
And Finally if you could care less about sports and have gotten this far in this post thank you for your time and I hope I shed some light on the world of sports for ya! :P

You one smart audience. Your right it is the World. And Phillip, you didn't look at all of the urls because not all of them are imports/exports. Yes Ty, your Africa is so visible due to their forest loss. These are photos from a very cool site called World Mapper: The World as you've never seen it before.
It is very interesting to check out and see what is important to what people group. For instance, the USA does not import meat products, but we do import: fish, alcohol & cigarettes, and toys. And as far as I can tell the only thing the USA exports are license fees and royalties.

I've been independent for as long as I can remember. Even while I was dependent on my parents for shelter and stuff there was a very independent nature to it.
But over the last few weeks I've been realizing how dependent I have been. Ty and I just moved into an apartment together and while getting ready to move I realized we were bringing nothing to the table. So for the first time ever I created accounts with Cox and Entergy. Okay that was simple enough.
So on to livingroom furniture, that stuff is expensive or ugly/uncomfortable. But wait Jenn has a couch and loveseat that she is about to get rid of for some furniture from her mom. Yes free comfortable furniture. TV (or projector) for the livingroom still needs to be purchased but no big rush on that.
Okay well now it's time to start cooking, but wait no dishes, pots, pans, silverware, spices, knives, spoons, measuring cups, flour, oil, and on and on and on. Just when I think I'm going to save some money by cooking at home I find myself at Bed, Bath & Beyond dropping a hundred dollars a day on stuff.
But it's okay because tonight I was finally able to cook meyself my favorite childhood meal, steak w/rice & gravy, just like I used to make it while living with my parents. Now that is the spot where I do have an advantage, as a wee child my two sisters and I would take turns cooking dinner because our mother worked nights, so I'm an old pro behind the stove.

The roof inside the "O" theater gives you the very feeling of being underwater.

This show used the whole theater, the actors used the aisles next to us, the stage which has to be 20ft. deep, and the space above the water like in this shot here.

This scene was amazing... acrobats in the rain.

The curtain closed for under a minute and BAM it opened with this huge truss structure hangin' out!

If you have the opportunity to go to a Cirque De Soleil show I highly suggest you do so. They will leave you amazed.

Chris What Is Up?

I have never had bouts of depression. My outlook on situations might be negative from time to time, but I can never remember myself being depressed. Pecking out my thoughts on this keyboard is just one of the ways I deal with my problems. Now I very rarely need to workout my happiness, so don't expect me to work through my happiness here on my blog.

In other news...
Ok I don't have other news. I do still have a few pictures from "O" I wanna share, I had a few troubles getting them to load the other night. But I'm trying to get my TiVo and my podcasts cleared out so that I can go out of town in a coupla weeks.

Oh yeah, and in other news Mother's Day is this Sunday and just like Birthdays and Christmas I have no idea what to get me mom.

So this song has really opened my eyes to the way I view things. I see a pretty girl or I notice things I like in a female, I think about the possibilities for a half a second then I jump to the last lines of the song. But it's not just in the world of relationships that I've done this, just about everything I've wanted in life I've been able to brush off by "facing the truth".

Part of me says this is just another day. The anniversary of the day I was born. I didn't get one year older today, I've been getting closer to 28 every day since last year this time.
So if I think it is not such a big deal, why do I make it a big deal? I hate this day the thought of being one year older. Blah. Now I understand that "old" saying 21 and holding.

So it has been over a month since I've written anything. Worse yet it has been almost as long since I've read any of my favorite blogs. You want my list of excuses: I'm lazy, I have other things I would prefer to do, I had a three week long ear infection dragging me down, I had things on my mind that I wanted to work out for myself by myself, I purchased a new computer for my home that I've been getting organized and updated, and well I'm back so get over how long I've been gone.
Now March Madness is two weeks in and it has just begun. While I'm typing this George Mason is tied with UConn 49-49, Florida and Nova yet to come, and yesterday LSU made it to the Final Four!

Thank you very kindly, my friends. As I listened to Ralph Abernathy in his eloquent and generous introduction and then thought about myself, I wondered who he was talking about. It's always good to have your closest friend and associate say something good about you. And Ralph is the best friend that I have in the world.

I'm delighted to see each of you here tonight in spite of a storm warning. You reveal that you are determined to go on anyhow. Something is happening in Memphis, something is happening in our world.

As you know, if I were standing at the beginning of time, with the possibility of general and panoramic view of the whole human history up to now, and the Almighty said to me, "Martin Luther King, which age would you like to live in?" — I would take my mental flight by Egypt through, or rather across the Red Sea, through the wilderness on toward the promised land. And in spite of its magnificence, I wouldn't stop there. I would move on by Greece, and take my mind to Mount Olympus. And I would see Plato, Aristotle, Socrates, Euripides and Aristophanes assembled around the Parthenon as they discussed the great and eternal issues of reality.

But I wouldn't stop there. I would go on, even to the great heyday of the Roman Empire. And I would see developments around there, through various emperors and leaders. But I wouldn't stop there. I would even come up to the day of the Renaissance, and get a quick picture of all that the Renaissance did for the cultural and esthetic life of man. But I wouldn't stop there. I would even go by the way that the man for whom I'm named had his habitat. And I would watch Martin Luther as he tacked his ninety-five theses on the door at the church in Wittenberg.

But I wouldn't stop there. I would come on up even to 1863, and watch a vacillating president by the name of Abraham Lincoln finally come to the conclusion that he had to sign the Emancipation Proclamation. But I wouldn't stop there. I would even come up to the early thirties, and see a man grappling with the problems of the bankruptcy of his nation. And come with an eloquent cry that we have nothing to fear but fear itself.

But I wouldn't stop there. Strangely enough, I would turn to the Almighty, and say, "If you allow me to live just a few years in the second half of the twentieth century, I will be happy." Now that's a strange statement to make, because the world is all messed up. The nation is sick. Trouble is in the land. Confusion all around. That's a strange statement. But I know, somehow, that only when it is dark enough, can you see the stars. And I see God working in this period of the twentieth century in a away that men, in some strange way, are responding — something is happening in our world. The masses of people are rising up. And wherever they are assembled today, whether they are in Johannesburg, South Africa; Nairobi, Kenya; Accra, Ghana; New York City; Atlanta, Georgia; Jackson, Mississippi; or Memphis, Tennessee — the cry is always the same — "We want to be free."

And another reason that I'm happy to live in this period is that we have been forced to a point where we're going to have to grapple with the problems that men have been trying to grapple with through history, but the demand didn't force them to do it. Survival demands that we grapple with them. Men, for years now, have been talking about war and peace. But now, no longer can they just talk about it. It is no longer a choice between violence and nonviolence in this world; it's nonviolence or nonexistence.

That is where we are today. And also in the human rights revolution, if something isn't done, and in a hurry, to bring the colored peoples of the world out of their long years of poverty, their long years of hurt and neglect, the whole world is doomed. Now, I'm just happy that God has allowed me to live in this period, to see what is unfolding. And I'm happy that He's allowed me to be in Memphis.

I can remember, I can remember when Negroes were just going around as Ralph has said, so often, scratching where they didn't itch, and laughing when they were not tickled. But that day is all over. We mean business now, and we are determined to gain our rightful place in God's world.

And that's all this whole thing is about. We aren't engaged in any negative protest and in any negative arguments with anybody. We are saying that we are determined to be men. We are determined to be people. We are saying that we are God's children. And that we don't have to live like we are forced to live.

Now, what does all of this mean in this great period of history? It means that we've got to stay together. We've got to stay together and maintain unity. You know, whenever Pharaoh wanted to prolong the period of slavery in Egypt, he had a favorite, favorite formula for doing it. What was that? He kept the salves fighting among themselves. But whenever the slaves get together, something happens in Pharaoh's court, and he cannot hold the slaves in slavery. When the slaves get together, that's the beginning of getting out of slavery. Now let us maintain unity.

Secondly, let us keep the issues where they are. The issue is injustice. The issue is the refusal of Memphis to be fair and honest in its dealings with its public servants, who happen to be sanitation workers. Now, we've got to keep attention on that. That's always the problem with a little violence. You know what happened the other day, and the press dealt only with the window-breaking. I read the articles. They very seldom got around to mentioning the fact that one thousand, three hundred sanitation workers were on strike, and that Memphis is not being fair to them, and that Mayor Loeb is in dire need of a doctor. They didn't get around to that.

Now we're going to march again, and we've got to march again, in order to put the issue where it is supposed to be. And force everybody to see that there are thirteen hundred of God's children here suffering, sometimes going hungry, going through dark and dreary nights wondering how this thing is going to come out. That's the issue. And we've got to say to the nation: we know it's coming out. For when people get caught up with that which is right and they are willing to sacrifice for it, there is no stopping point short of victory.

We aren't going to let any mace stop us. We are masters in our nonviolent movement in disarming police forces; they don't know what to do, I've seen them so often. I remember in Birmingham, Alabama, when we were in that majestic struggle there we would move out of the 16th Street Baptist Church day after day; by the hundreds we would move out. And Bull Connor would tell them to send the dogs forth and they did come; but we just went before the dogs singing, "Ain't gonna let nobody turn me round." Bull Connor next would say, "Turn the fire hoses on." And as I said to you the other night, Bull Connor didn't know history. He knew a kind of physics that somehow didn't relate to the transphysics that we knew about. And that was the fact that there was a certain kind of fire that no water could put out. And we went before the fire hoses; we had known water. If we were Baptist or some other denomination, we had been immersed. If we were Methodist, and some others, we had been sprinkled, but we knew water.

That couldn't stop us. And we just went on before the dogs and we would look at them; and we'd go on before the water hoses and we would look at it, and we'd just go on singing "Over my head I see freedom in the air." And then we would be thrown in the paddy wagons, and sometimes we were stacked in there like sardines in a can. And they would throw us in, and old Bull would say, "Take them off," and they did; and we would just go in the paddy wagon singing, "We Shall Overcome." And every now and then we'd get in the jail, and we'd see the jailers looking through the windows being moved by our prayers, and being moved by our words and our songs. And there was a power there which Bull Connor couldn't adjust to; and so we ended up transforming Bull into a steer, and we won our struggle in Birmingham.

Now we've got to go on to Memphis just like that. I call upon you to be with us Monday. Now about injunctions: We have an injunction and we're going into court tomorrow morning to fight this illegal, unconstitutional injunction. All we say to America is, "Be true to what you said on paper." If I lived in China or even Russia, or any totalitarian country, maybe I could understand the denial of certain basic First Amendment privileges, because they hadn't committed themselves to that over there. But somewhere I read of the freedom of assembly. Somewhere I read of the freedom of speech. Somewhere I read of the freedom of the press. Somewhere I read that the greatness of America is the right to protest for right. And so just as I say, we aren't going to let any injunction turn us around. We are going on.

We need all of you. And you know what's beautiful tome, is to see all of these ministers of the Gospel. It's a marvelous picture. Who is it that is supposed to articulate the longings and aspirations of the people more than the preacher? Somehow the preacher must be an Amos, and say, "Let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream." Somehow, the preacher must say with Jesus, "The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to deal with the problems of the poor."

And I want to commend the preachers, under the leadership of these noble men: James Lawson, one who has been in this struggle for many years; he's been to jail for struggling; but he's still going on, fighting for the rights of his people. Rev. Ralph Jackson, Billy Kiles; I could just go right on down the list, but time will not permit. But I want to thank them all. And I want you to thank them, because so often, preachers aren't concerned about anything but themselves. And I'm always happy to see a relevant ministry.

It's all right to talk about "long white robes over yonder," in all of its symbolism. But ultimately people want some suits and dresses and shoes to wear down here. It's all right to talk about "streets flowing with milk and honey," but God has commanded us to be concerned about the slums down here, and his children who can't eat three square meals a day. It's all right to talk about the new Jerusalem, but one day, God's preachers must talk about the New York, the new Atlanta, the new Philadelphia, the new Los Angeles, the new Memphis, Tennessee. This is what we have to do.

Now the other thing we'll have to do is this: Always anchor our external direct action with the power of economic withdrawal. Now, we are poor people, individually, we are poor when you compare us with white society in America. We are poor. Never stop and forget that collectively, that means all of us together, collectively we are richer than all the nations in the world, with the exception of nine. Did you ever think about that? After you leave the United States, Soviet Russia, Great Britain, West Germany, France, and I could name the others, the Negro collectively is richer than most nations of the world. We have an annual income of more than thirty billion dollars a year, which is more than all of the exports of the United States, and more than the national budget of Canada. Did you know that? That's power right there, if we know how to pool it.

We don't have to argue with anybody. We don't have to curse and go around acting bad with our words. We don't need any bricks and bottles, we don't need any Molotov cocktails, we just need to go around to these stores, and to these massive industries in our country, and say, "God sent us by here, to say to you that you're not treating his children right. And we've come by here to ask you to make the first item on your agenda fair treatment, where God's children are concerned. Now, if you are not prepared to do that, we do have an agenda that we must follow. And our agenda calls for withdrawing economic support from you."

And so, as a result of this, we are asking you tonight, to go out and tell your neighbors not to buy Coca-Cola in Memphis. Go by and tell them not to buy Sealtest milk. Tell them not to buy—what is the other bread?—Wonder Bread. And what is the other bread company, Jesse? Tell them not to buy Hart's bread. As Jesse Jackson has said, up to now, only the garbage men have been feeling pain; now we must kind of redistribute the pain. We are choosing these companies because they haven't been fair in their hiring policies; and we are choosing them because they can begin the process of saying, they are going to support the needs and the rights of these men who are on strike. And then they can move on downtown and tell Mayor Loeb to do what is right.

But not only that, we've got to strengthen black institutions. I call upon you to take your money out of the banks downtown and deposit your money in Tri-State Bank�we want a "bank-in" movement in Memphis. So go by the savings and loan association. I'm not asking you something we don't do ourselves at SCLC. Judge Hooks and others will tell you that we have an account here in the savings and loan association from the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. We're just telling you to follow what we're doing. Put your money there. You have six or seven black insurance companies in Memphis. Take out your insurance there. We want to have an "insurance-in."

Now these are some practical things we can do. We begin the process of building a greater economic base. And at the same time, we are putting pressure where it really hurts. I ask you to follow through here.

Now, let me say as I move to my conclusion that we've got to give ourselves to this struggle until the end. Nothing would be more tragic than to stop at this point, in Memphis. We've got to see it through. And when we have our march, you need to be there. Be concerned about your brother. You may not be on strike. But either we go up together, or we go down together.

Let us develop a kind of dangerous unselfishness. One day a man came to Jesus; and he wanted to raise some questions about some vital matters in life. At points, he wanted to trick Jesus, and show him that he knew a little more than Jesus knew, and through this, throw him off base. Now that question could have easily ended up in a philosophical and theological debate. But Jesus immediately pulled that question from mid-air, and placed it on a dangerous curve between Jerusalem and Jericho. And he talked about a certain man, who fell among thieves. You remember that a Levite and a priest passed by on the other side. They didn't stop to help him. And finally a man of another race came by. He got down from his beast, decided not to be compassionate by proxy. But with him, administering first aid, and helped the man in need. Jesus ended up saying, this was the good man, this was the great man, because he had the capacity to project the "I" into the "thou," and to be concerned about his brother. Now you know, we use our imagination a great deal to try to determine why the priest and the Levite didn't stop. At times we say they were busy going to church meetings—an ecclesiastical gathering—and they had to get on down to Jerusalem so they wouldn't be late for their meeting. At other times we would speculate that there was a religious law that "One who was engaged in religious ceremonials was not to touch a human body twenty-four hours before the ceremony." And every now and then we begin to wonder whether maybe they were not going down to Jerusalem, or down to Jericho, rather to organize a "Jericho Road Improvement Association." That's a possibility. Maybe they felt that it was better to deal with the problem from the causal root, rather than to get bogged down with an individual effort.

But I'm going to tell you what my imagination tells me. It's possible that these men were afraid. You see, the Jericho road is a dangerous road. I remember when Mrs. King and I were first in Jerusalem. We rented a car and drove from Jerusalem down to Jericho. And as soon as we got on that road, I said to my wife, "I can see why Jesus used this as a setting for his parable." It's a winding, meandering road. It's really conducive for ambushing. You start out in Jerusalem, which is about 1200 miles, or rather 1200 feet above sea level. And by the time you get down to Jericho, fifteen or twenty minutes later, you're about 2200 feet below sea level. That's a dangerous road. In the days of Jesus it came to be known as the "Bloody Pass." And you know, it's possible that the priest and the Levite looked over that man on the ground and wondered if the robbers were still around. Or it's possible that they felt that the man on the ground was merely faking. And he was acting like he had been robbed and hurt, in order to seize them over there, lure them there for quick and easy seizure. And so the first question that the Levite asked was, "If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?" But then the Good Samaritan came by. And he reversed the question: "If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?"

That's the question before you tonight. Not, "If I stop to help the sanitation workers, what will happen to all of the hours that I usually spend in my office every day and every week as a pastor?" The question is not, "If I stop to help this man in need, what will happen to me?" "If I do not stop to help the sanitation workers, what will happen to them?" That's the question.

Let us rise up tonight with a greater readiness. Let us stand with a greater determination. And let us move on in these powerful days, these days of challenge to make America what it ought to be. We have an opportunity to make America a better nation. And I want to thank God, once more, for allowing me to be here with you.

You know, several years ago, I was in New York City autographing the first book that I had written. And while sitting there autographing books, a demented black woman came up. The only question I heard from her was, "Are you Martin Luther King?"

And I was looking down writing, and I said yes. And the next minute I felt something beating on my chest. Before I knew it I had been stabbed by this demented woman. I was rushed to Harlem Hospital. It was a dark Saturday afternoon. And that blade had gone through, and the X-rays revealed that the tip of the blade was on the edge of my aorta, the main artery. And once that's punctured, you drown in your own blood�that's the end of you.

It came out in the New York Times the next morning, that if I had sneezed, I would have died. Well, about four days later, they allowed me, after the operation, after my chest had been opened, and the blade had been taken out, to move around in the wheel chair in the hospital. They allowed me to read some of the mail that came in, and from all over the states, and the world, kind letters came in. I read a few, but one of them I will never forget. I had received one from the President and the Vice-President. I've forgotten what those telegrams said. I'd received a visit and a letter from the Governor of New York, but I've forgotten what the letter said. But there was another letter that came from a little girl, a young girl who was a student at the White Plains High School. And I looked at that letter, and I'll never forget it. It said simply, "Dear Dr. King: I am a ninth-grade student at the White Plains High School." She said, "While it should not matter, I would like to mention that I am a white girl. I read in the paper of your misfortune, and of your suffering. And I read that if you had sneezed, you would have died. And I'm simply writing you to say that I'm so happy that you didn't sneeze."

And I want to say tonight, I want to say that I am happy that I didn't sneeze. Because if I had sneezed, I wouldn't have been around here in 1960, when students all over the South started sitting-in at lunch counters. And I knew that as they were sitting in, they were really standing up for the best in the American dream. And taking the whole nation back to those great wells of democracy which were dug deep by the Founding Fathers in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. If I had sneezed, I wouldn't have been around in 1962, when Negroes in Albany, Georgia, decided to straighten their backs up. And whenever men and women straighten their backs up, they are going somewhere, because a man can't ride your back unless it is bent. If I had sneezed, I wouldn't have been here in 1963, when the black people of Birmingham, Alabama, aroused the conscience of this nation, and brought into being the Civil Rights Bill. If I had sneezed, I wouldn't have had a chance later that year, in August, to try to tell America about a dream that I had had. If I had sneezed, I wouldn't have been down in Selma, Alabama, been in Memphis to see the community rally around those brothers and sisters who are suffering. I'm so happy that I didn't sneeze.

And they were telling me, now it doesn't matter now. It really doesn't matter what happens now. I left Atlanta this morning, and as we got started on the plane, there were six of us, the pilot said over the public address system, "We are sorry for the delay, but we have Dr. Martin Luther King on the plane. And to be sure that all of the bags were checked, and to be sure that nothing would be wrong with the plane, we had to check out everything carefully. And we've had the plane protected and guarded all night."

And then I got to Memphis. And some began to say the threats, or talk about the threats that were out. What would happen to me from some of our sick white brothers?

Well, I don't know what will happen now. We've got some difficult days ahead. But it doesn't matter with me now. Because I've been to the mountaintop. And I don't mind. Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want to do God's will. And He's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over. And I've seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land. And I'm happy, tonight. I'm not worried about anything. I'm not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.

Layers of friendship

Best Friends (2-4) - people you can rely on 24/7 for any/everything
Friends (dozens) - hangout with on semi regular basis
location friends - people you know do to circumstances, they might be friends from work, the gym, school, but you never really see that person outside of that location.

Well the holidays are like a fourth layer of friends.
There are family members I only see at the holidays, there are people that show up at holiday parties where that is the only time you see them. And then there is church, and there are those people you don't see but twice a year - Easter and Christmas. I had one of those occasions this Christmas. A person I used to work very closely with has since gone in her own direction. But when I saw her I a had to capture the moment. Now I'm gonna share it with my millions of viewers.

Oh the holidays

It's always fun to go back home for the holidays. Yes, I live in the same city as my parents, but I don't make it by their house often, and there is also the fact of the whole family there hanging out. I remember when I was younger I would lineup a movie night with my friends. But now I realize the holidays are more about building relationship with your family. I got there around noon and hungout with my dad watching football. We all sat down to a late lunch at 2ish. After lunch was over we played a game called "Mad Gab". We played it for around 3 hours. Afterwards my dad wipped out some old pictures and we sat around looking back through the years.

Since, I am a huge LSU Tiger fan I am very critical of the coaching. I think LSU will continue to have a great year, 12-1 winner of the SEC West, SEC Overall, and Sugar Bowl Champion. My concern is, what about next year? Tonight was senior night, 22 seniors - 15 of which are very active if not starters, what are we gonna do next year when they are gone?
I was not very critical of Nick Saban and his staff. So my question is, is it Les Miles or is it Jimbo Fisher? The only difference is Les Miles, I'm not saying that it is him, maybe Saban kept tighter reigns on Jimbo than Les is doing. Maybe Jimbo is having all of his play calling changed up by Les. I don't know I'm not on the side line.
I know watching it on TV my friends and I know in the second half with a big lead LSU will run it up the middle on both first and second downs and them throw it, with all kinds of (mental) pressure on the players, on third down. However, tonight at the game I relized others are noticing these same things. The people around me all knew, without me having to tell them, what or play calling would be.

State Of The Me Address

When I was twenty I was ready to get married to what I thought was the love of my life. Now here I am many years later totally dissatisfied with ever girl in my circle of availability. But I often wonder if I’m dissatisfied in them or in myself. It has gotta be them because I’m the same guy I was in my teen years. Of course that isn’t true at all. As far as my looks and general disposition I am, but in matters of my heart/mind well I am changed. For two years my ex-girlfriend had my head so messed up I didn’t know who I was or what I was doing. During which time I meet many girls I liked that also seemed to be interested in me. But with my current state of heart/mind I stirred clear so not to be a time bomb in someone else’s life. Many years later, here I am at that place where I hope it is them and not me.

So I’m sitting here watching Boston Legal and there are some parents that want to sue a school over a Halloween pageant. They are offended by witch decorations. So by parents I mean two sets of parents one set are Christians and the other set are Wiccans. Of course, Boston Legal is a television show, meaning it is not real, but they do generally get their ideas from somewhere. And this morning on Kid Kraddic I heard them talk about an incident at Walt Disney Elementary School, apparently this year the school decided that the students won’t be able to wear costumes (I searched for close to an hour for the story on the net). Well, unaware of the new rule, one boy showed up wearing his costume only to have his teacher make him remove it and sit in class wearing his underwear.
As a kid I never really got into Halloween, mostly because I didn’t like deciding what I wanted to be. But at the same time I didn’t hate the holiday. Hear I am many years removed from the age of a trick or treater I still don’t hate the holiday. But lots of Christians do. And rightfully so, Halloween has always been satanic in nature, sacrifices and other evil deeds happen every year during the witching hour.
All that said, let the kids dress up and go get some candy.

All Hallows Eve

Last night, Halloween, I watched "The Blair Witch Project". I have not been living under a rock {*****Movie Spoiler*****} for the past eight years, I know this movie scared everyone when it came out because they thought it was all based on a true story. The official website was so well organized and thought out that it all just seemed all too real. Then as you are watching the movie it looks like something you would see on 60 minutes, “…this is actually footage from the aspiring filmmakers camera.” It has a bunch of nobody actors, really who uses 100% nobody actors? And have I mentioned the storyline? It is an urban legend passed down through the years, no one knows if it’s true or if the witnesses and stories are crazy.
Now I need to watch Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 I hear from a reliable source ”Snobby Pants” that it is worth a watch. While on this Horror genre kick I need to watch The Exorcist so that Matthews and I can both see Exorcist: The Beginning.
Then hopefully I will be done with this genre and I can then begin my Westerns.

Dear Mr. NCAA

The polls that ruin what is college football. Okay, on the real I like the BCS but it is still distorted by humans and their opinions. All polls should wait till week 6. Every conference would have a championship game or none of them would.
Currently the Pac 10 is not a tough conference, I know Oregon St. and Arizona St. gave LSU everything they wanted and more these past two years, But for three years in a row we are 3-0 versus the Pac 10. The big twelve we are 1-1 since 2002, Our win vs. Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl and our lose vs. Texas in the Cotton Bowl.
Now I’m not saying Texas and USC suck, I think they are both good, but I am saying they go unchallenged every year. There needs to be a huge realignment in college football, dropping the 1-A from 117 teams, down to 80ish, putting the worthy mid-major schools into the “big” conferences, doing away with or completely restructuring the Big East.
Then we can go with a 24 team playoff system (the top 8 teams would start playing in week 2 of the brackets)

But that is just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I just got done watching my first ever “Run’s House”, he is a funny dude. I know everybody and their brother have a video crew watching their family in this day and age, but Run’s brother is Russell Simmons and he too is funny.

“The Exorcism of Emily Rose” was a really interesting film. While it is a horror film, I knew it played out as more of an episode of “Law & Order”. It’s writer/director Scott Derrickson is a Christian, with a history in the horror genre. But without your family, you guys should check it out.

I'll never understand how these things occur. Miami had to postpone their game due to the hurricane, but somehow they vault pass LSU who beat an under-rated (for two years now) #16 Auburn team. Of course as of now LSU is, in my opinion, over-rated. UCLA is undefeated so I have no problem with them passing LSU, especially concidering that USC will eventually beat them.
I'm going to get my takes out before the weekly Va. Tech Thursday Night game.

I pwned today in my first game in nearly three months. When you play as great as I do you have to take breaks every now and again.
